Always something....

We've been waiting on Steve's MS shots to arrive...we gave them an extra week, he's down to one shot and he decided to call today. They have never been late...they are usually right on the nose at 2wks shipment or even a few days early. Steve called the drug company and they said it was noted that our shipment should have been AT our house on the 14th. Further investigation.....FedEx has lost Steve's shots!!! They have either delivered them to the wrong place or lost them entirely!!! Due to them being packed with ice packs to control the temp in the injector needles...that is a $3500 shipment($5000 give or take before insurance for 12 needles) that went bad!! Thankfully the shot company filed it as a lost script, is doing an investigation and refilled Steve's shots. He may run out of shots before the new shipment arrives but at least they didn't charge us full price for a refill (we are in a copay program after our health insurance pays...insurance etc could have easily said So Sorry but that's your problem and charges us for a full refill sans insurance!!), they are resending them and they are dealing with Fed Ex. The drug company is VERY irate with Fed Ex!!! I'm hoping that the shots are just lost and that someone didn't steal them or think they were getting some pain meds....the side effects of Avonex is a VERY high fever, flu like symptoms and all over body aches. Granted if one of the employees that should have delivered them is suddenly out with the flu lmbo culprit found LOL

Update....new shipment of meds arrived...via UPS overnight! Very thankful for the shipment, for insurance reapproving it and the drug company researching it

Life with Kaya.....never dull ;)

Our fave little minion wink emoticon Life is never dull with this wonky haired girl around!!
1. "Ohhh I think you got shampoo in my eye!"...told her I was sorry but it was conditioner not shampoo. "Well you say potato I say Patato...it's all the same" LMBO
2."You know I graduate next month. I didn't even realize that. Of course I didn't realize I've been going an extra thirty minutes every day either....."....LOL
3. "Hey Mamma you can borrow my Hello Kitty backpack when you start school." Told her I'd be starting in early May and she'd be out in late May but that I can do mine at home. "Well...you can use it to carry the books to the computer ok? I'm trying to share...goodness"
4."I am completely full from supper. COMPLETELY. Oh, wait I have room, just enough room in this section of my tummy for a packet of gummys. Just barely enough room."
5. "I told C in my class that I have ate and I like worms with cheddar cheese and ants in glass candy (her Uncle Jonus sent her some...yes she liked them lol) He said that was gross. I told him hey, I like it that's all that matters and that no I do not just eat any ole bug" LOL
6." I think Aunt Lindsey's baby boy is going to be this big when he comes out ...(spreads her hands out to about 2 ft.)" I made a face and said I bet she hopes he's a bit smaller than that. "Hmm I don't know why. Havin' a baby can't be that bad and he has to be big enough to do stuff." Told her she best not wish for Aunt L to have a 2 ft baby LOL
7. "Daddy get over it. A tomato is a fruit. You can call it what you want but you like fruit so you should like a tomato." Steve made a face and said he doesn't like tomatoes and he says they are a veggie. "Daddy a scientist listed them that way so you're going to have to face it. It's a fruit. It may not look like a fruit, smell like one or taste like one but it is. Now let it go" LOL
Nope, never a dull moment around the ole Hacienda smile emoticon

Awesome family time

We went to Addie's first soccer game and we had a ball!! The kids had a blast, Kaya LOUDLY cheered Addie on and it was nice sitting with family watching the game. We let the girls play at the park attached to the soccer field for a bit before heading home.
First day of mowing, raking and the such lol I'm one of those nuts that loves to mow so I usually do it while Steve weedeats etc. We do trade back and forth though but once the dead heat of summer hits I do most of it because he can't take the heat. So I really enjoy the time we get together doing things :)
Of course I got the mower stuck in the drainage ditch like I do every year lol I only do it once but it's always the first time I mow LOL I tried to get the blasted thing out,,,,no such luck so Steve had to save me LOL I think I overestimate my turn around on the corner ;)
We had Addie, her Mamma and her Mamma's boyfriend over for hotdogs on the fire pit, smores and chips and dip :) Wonderful time was had by all just relaxing by the fire talking and laughing. The girls played on Kaya's swings, in the yard, on bicycles and of course on the trampoline. They are two peas in a pod :)

Kaya's first field trip

I wish the school had requested parent volunteers but I guess they opted not to due to the amount of teachers, teacher's aids and such that went. The kids got to eat at a cool park the next town over and to visit the WonderLab...a really cool science and hands on building.
Kaya had a blast and we loved hearing her chat about everything she did, saw and was involved in. Although she did get told to not ask repeatedly "Why are we lining up Mrs W?" LOL
Very glad she had a great time and wants to go back to WonderLab. Love her so excited over science, that she had a great time and did so well. Looking forward to many more field trips that we CAN go on and be involved in :)

Couldn't be prouder of our girl!!! She chose her own experiment, did all the testing required and helped glue everything to her board how she wanted. And....she won first place in her grade/category :) VERY proud of her and I won't lie...I LOVE that she is so into science!!!  All the kids did great and we had a ball checking everything out at the science fair. Purdue, IU, the local library, a gem club and the local science and magic clubs all had tables with interactive projects and the kids love that!! The school provided either a snack or meal.

Two sweeties feeling less than great

Kaya is finally starting to NOT run a fever and feel better. It was one long week of her not feeling great, coughing and such. She only missed Monday from school and made me go to school and pick up her work so she'd have it done. I am very thankful that the prep inhaler she's been using has been working...no crackly sound in her chest etc. I cannot stand when she is so miserable.
It's been a crazy week of appts....Monday I took Kaya to the dr while Steve felt less than great. Then Tuesday morning I ran my Mom to the dr because she was under the weather (bad bronchitis, two shots in the hip and a strong dose of meds for home) then by Tuesday night Steve's fever shot way up and he was miserable...so a trip to the dr with him.
They decided Steve had an infection somewhere. His lungs were clear, his nose was fine, his ears were fine. The infection was somewhere and his body was fighting it. They gave him an antibiotic and told him lots of rest. That is the scariest thing with MS. MS itself won't kill you...but it weakens your immune system so much that an infection, the flu or pneumonia can kill you. Hearing the dr say an infection somewhere made me edgy. Thankfully the meds worked and after about 3 days his fever let go.
So very little sleep for Mamma this week. I've not missed work but more than once I could have napped on my desk lol By Friday I had only 3 hrs sleep the night before and I swear I was walking in my sleep at work.
I detest when people at work complain and demand to go home over silly things or pets when others of us take our jobs and obligations seriously and have things going on at home not everyone knows about. But we keep a smile on our face, treat others nicely and get our jobs done!!
I wish too others would take things seriously when I tell them about it. I've got to the point that I don't really say too much to some because....they won't ask about Steve or Kaya, check on them etc so why bother??!! I wish that some would realize that something serious could happen to Steve then how would they feel? I don't know. Their cross to bear I suppose......

Emily may give me white hair....hehehe

Emily Dawn had her surgery about 2 to 3 weeks ago. When she had her braces put on they noticed her teeth didn't pull into place exactly right and that her sinus/ear/pallet of her mouth was aching and hurting. After some review they found her jaw was way out of alignment and causing the problem.
A trip to Indy for an 8 hour surgery...they broke her top jaw, bottom jaw and set them back into place. Then they broke and moved the bone going to her chin and put her chin in the right location. Less than 3 days later she was home and on her liquid diet.
Fast forward to today and they removed her splint in her mouth and one set of screws. She's doing awesome!! She only missed four days of school and has been slatted to return to work this week. She's one tough cookie!!
She really liked her cards and her care package full of Diva Needed Supplies...colorful straws, tiny spoons, pudding, jello, water flavoring you name it ;)
We sure do love the girl and are so very happy she's progressing so well. She's had her moments of frustration...you can't really understand her when she talks, embarrassment over trying to eat in public and such...but she's keeping her chin up and knows that soon she'll be all done with it :)

Picadillo Cubano (Cuban Ground Beef Dish)

  • 2 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 teaspoon of ground cumin
  • 1/4 teaspoon of ground oregano
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 5 garlic cloves, crushed
  • Salt and pepper, to your taste
  • 1 cup of tomato sauce
  • 1 tablespoon of tomato paste
  • 1/2 cup of stuffed Spanish olives, cut in half
  • 1/3 cup of raisins
  • Directions

    1. Place a sauce pan on medium-high heat and add the olive oil.
    2. Add the beef and brown, stirring occasionally, then add the cumin, oregano, bay leaf, onion, bell pepper, garlic and season with salt and pepper.Cook for about 10 minutes more.
    3. Add the tomato sauce, olives and raisins. Reduce the heat to low, cover and cook for about 30 minutes, stirring often.
    4. Remove the bay leaf and serve over plain white rice.
I'd love to say this was a super hit lmbo but it got mild reviews. I liked it but not something I would want every day...Steve barely ate any of it lol But I have been keeping up my deal of one new recipe every week or so. Thankfully I love to cook, love new ideas and I'm not too afraid to try things :)

A sweet lunch date :)

When I work 7 days straight I get Monday and Tuesday off. Kaya HATES when I do a 7 day stretch but she sure does love it when I have two days off during the week ;) She gets to be a car rider in the morning and night...which eliminates a VERY long bus ride and sometimes we surprise her by either swinging by Magic Morning or.......today we came to school for lunch. We had a blast. Steve and I sat with her and at the adjoining table was three of her buddies. Listening to all that chatter cracked us up. Then we walked her back to class and got asked if we'd like to help with recess duty since it was an indoor day due to the rain. Of course we volunteered ;) and had a blast. It's a bit hectic ...they set up stations around the gym room with dolls, school stuff, cars you name it or the kids can just play in the middle of the gym room. Time out is done on the bleachers and I have to admit the sweet little guy that was right under my elbow the whole time....yes I could have taken him home with us LOL
Kaya was very happy to have the extra time with us and to have us there. One of her school buddies had told her "Kaya, don't get upset and cry if your parents don't come. Sometimes parents don't come when they say they will"...he was trying to protect Kaya's feelings. Of course our girl told him "When my parents make a promise they keep it. They'll be here". And we of course was.
We had to play with her buddies too (Kaya sometimes is a bit shy about sharing "HER " parents lol but after a bit she's fine )
All around nice day. Very thankful for every moment we have with this wonky wild child :) :)

Easter!

One long week (on a 7 day stretch!!) and it finally wrapped up today. Very thankful that Steve did the turkey breast and Kaya helped make the green bean casserole ;) We had my Mom and my mother in law in for supper and it was delicious. Along with with Steve and Kaya made I added mash potatoes and gravy, potato salad, mac n cheese, pasta salad, rolls, southern fried corn, Amish butter noodles, and deviled eggs. My Mamma made bake beans (she makes the best!!) and my mother in law pitched in two desserts and pop. It all came together nicely. I was raised to do dishes as you cooked so once everything was in the oven and going etc I had no dishes ;) to do lol We did one dozen dyed eggs and a dozen plastic eggs stuffed with candy and one with a quarter in it. Kaya loved her basket of goodies and her note from the Easter Bunny answering her questions LOL
Very nice day weather wise, food wise and family wise :)

Report card day!

Gotta brag on our girl. Report card day. 95% in Reading, 94% in Math. We started bragging on her and told her "You did great, you got A's!!", she drops her head and says "B means Better. I need to get B's!!" Finally got her to understand that an A is the highest you can get and means she's doing great!! lol She mastered all her skills for this term, scored 97% on sentences, sentence structures and mastered all the basics. Her only room for improvement was "follow directions and do work neatly"...(never saw that one coming LMBO). She is doing better on that so we give her points for trying to improve and take her time. She missed writing the letter Z because she did it backwards and the number 14 because she wrote it as 40...otherwise no missing of any!! smile emoticon 100% on her reading comprehension for Little Engine that Could. Very proud of the little miss. I hate how hard she is on herself ("I did horrible. I missed like 4 things out of the 15 page test!!") but very proud of her and glad she is doing so well smile emoticon
